CesiumAstro is seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer to own the full lifecycle of board-level and system-level electronics hardware design and implementation for advanced RF communication systems used in satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and airborne platforms. The Skylark product line focuses on rapid design, build, and test of cutting-edge active phased array antennas (AESA) for terrestrial and airborne applications, spanning high-power ground terminals for missile defense to commercial airline and helicopter connectivity solutions. In this role, you will drive electrical systems design with a digital focus, bringing deep expertise in board-level electronics design, analysis, and test. You will own the design phase of complex electronics from trade studies through production and deployment, including key part selection, detailed design, and rigorous design reviews. You will lead small teams of hardware engineers on multi-module assemblies, making hardware architecture decisions, requirements definition, and interconnect specifications. Your work will span signal integrity, FPGA implementation, ADC/DAC design, telemetry subsystems, PCB layout including high-density interconnect (HDI) stackup design, and high-speed routing. You will run board-level signal integrity and power integrity simulations, debug hardware issues, perform root cause analysis, and bring up new hardware in the lab. You will also help drive overall program direction and contribute to proposals for new business opportunities. The role requires strong attention to detail, rigorous design reviews, and solid understanding of relevant industry standards including military and DO standards. You will work in a dynamic, cross-functional startup environment with hands-on, interactive, and autonomous work. REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor of Science (BS) degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university - Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in board-level electronics design, analysis, and test - Significant experience designing electronics with rigor in teams that value thorough analysis and testing - Expertise in digital and mixed-signal electronics: signal integrity, FPGA implementation on boards, ADCs/DACs, telemetry subsystems - Experience owning the design phase of complex board-level electronics, including trade studies, key part selection, and detailed design - Experience delivering hardware designs through production and deployment - Expertise in PCB layout, including high-density interconnect (HDI) stackup design and high-speed routing - Experience running board-level signal integrity and/or power integrity simulation tools (Ansys SIwave, ADS SIPro, Mentor Hyperlynx) - Proven success in debugging, root cause analysis, and design reviews - Depth in point-of-load power converter design for digital boards - Strong working knowledge of adjacent fields (software, mechanical) that guides hardware and system design - Extensive lab experience for bring-up and verification of new hardware - Familiarity with EMI/EMC concepts and design mitigation - Understanding of military and/or DO standards - Experience with design qualification and production lifecycle - Has led small teams of hardware engineers to develop multi-module assemblies, including hardware architecture, requirements, make/buy decisions, and interconnects PREFERRED: - Experience with RF design and test equipment - Experience crafting proposals for new business opportunities U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status required per U.S. Government Space Technology Export Regulations.
