Salary: USD 225,000 - 275,000 / annual
ALSO is an electric mobility company building vertically integrated, small electric vehicles designed to address global mobility challenges. The company is seeking a Staff Dyno Controls Engineer to develop and maintain an in-house, highly customized dynamometer controls software platform used to validate all small EVs and drive units.
In this role, you will:
- Develop, implement, and validate in-house customized drive unit dynos, vehicle dynos, and test benches including models, software, and GUI interfaces.
- Integrate drive units, dyno electric drives, speed/torque/temperature sensors, power supplies, and cooling systems into dyno control systems.
- Develop dyno and embedded controls interfaces for automatic validation and test profiles.
- Perform testing and troubleshooting in dyno labs and vehicle environments on control-related topics.
- Identify, report, and track software bugs from dyno tests; analyze logs to troubleshoot issues.
- Contribute to propulsion control and motor control development efforts.
- Collaborate with controls, firmware, electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers on validation, development, and requirements.
This is a hands-on technical role requiring deep expertise in controls systems, real-time simulation, and automotive/EV testing infrastructure. You will work directly with the "dream drive" validation team and contribute to the core engineering efforts of the company.
REQUIREMENTS:
- BS or MS degree (MS preferred) in Controls, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, including model-based design, Stateflow, and automation scripts.
- Hands-on experience with real-time simulation systems (e.g., Speedgoat, NI PXIe, dSpace) and GUI development. NI Veristand and LabVIEW experience is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with dynamometers, power supplies, power meters, and testing motor drive systems. Motor control and electric drives experience required. Siemens drives experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with embedded controllers and programming languages such as C and Python.
- Familiarity with automotive and electric drives communication protocols (CAN, etherCAT) and tools such as Vector CANalyzer and CANape.
- Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and continuous integration workflows.
