Salary: USD 176,100 - 308,200 / annual
ServiceNow is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Platform Persistence team, which focuses on solving complex problems in data lifecycle management within the ServiceNow ecosystem. This is a high-visibility role reporting to executive leadership, where you will shape the future of the platform's data architecture and ensure efficient storage, retrieval, and management of data.
The Platform Persistence team works on impactful projects with a unique focus on telemetry and data visualization, directly influencing how customer and platform data is utilized and presented across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Write highly scalable code leveraging best practices in concurrency and memory utilization
- Contribute to data management strategies ensuring scalability, efficiency, and security
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on data-related initiatives
- Explore and solve challenging data problems including data loss detection and recovery
- Champion data best practices and security standards across the organization
- Monitor and optimize data performance, implementing improvements as needed
- Stay current with latest data storage and management technologies including distributed storage systems (S3, Apache Iceberg) and Kubernetes-based deployments
- Use AI tools to solve challenging data and distributed systems problems at scale, applying sound judgment on guardrails and processes for AI-led software development
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement
Requirements:
- 8+ years of software development experience with a Bachelor's degree; OR 5+ years with a Master's degree; OR 3+ years with a PhD; OR equivalent work experience
- Proficiency in Java programming with strong expertise in data structures and algorithms
- Proficiency with concurrency and parallel programming concepts
- Working knowledge of databases, data modeling, and data storage technologies
- Strong relational database experience handling large amounts of data on relational systems
- Deep knowledge of Kubernetes with hands-on experience in Kubernetes service deployment (strong plus)
- Working knowledge of distributed storage systems such as S3 and Apache Iceberg
- Strong understanding of cloud-based and distributed systems
- Familiarity with ServiceNow platform (plus)
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Working knowledge of JavaScript beneficial for cross-functional collaboration
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools and awareness of related guardrails/processes (plus)
