Form Energy is hiring a Staff Commissioning Engineer to lead the deployment and commissioning of grid-scale iron-air battery systems. This is a critical role within the Commercial Operations group, responsible for building and operationalizing Form's commissioning process for its unique long-duration energy storage technology.
You will execute commissioning and field service tasks on internal test beds and at commercial customer project sites, performing remote and on-site diagnostics and troubleshooting using custom software, SQL, data acquisition, and energy management systems. You'll design and build custom electromechanical tooling required to troubleshoot and repair fielded battery systems in the field.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and operationalizing the commissioning process for Form's fielded battery systems
- Executing commissioning and field service tasks on internal test beds and at commercial customer project sites
- Performing remote and on-site diagnostics and troubleshooting of equipment using custom software, SQL, data acquisition and energy management software
- Designing and building custom electromechanical tooling required to troubleshoot and repair fielded battery systems
- Working closely with Product Engineering and Product Management teams to develop deep technical understanding of the product and its application
- Supporting and leading cross-functional efforts to determine root cause of field failures and drive permanent resolution with Manufacturing and Engineering teams
- Collaborating with software development team to define and develop digital tools for interfacing with battery equipment
- Traveling to client or project sites 50-80% of the time
You will collaborate closely with Product Engineering, Test and Validation, Manufacturing, Quality teams, and third-party suppliers of system components such as inverters, transformers, and power plant controllers. This role requires comfort working in the field, executing tasks independently, directing other engineers and technicians, and coordinating closely with internal and customer stakeholders.

REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of experience in renewable energy system commissioning or service engineering roles
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Strong understanding of SCADA communication protocols such as Modbus and DNP3, networking design and operation, power plant control systems, battery management systems, and utility relay and metering equipment
- Prior experience with troubleshooting electrical/electronic and mechanical systems, such as HVDC power converters, HVAC systems, and/or fluid delivery systems
- Familiarity with distributed, industrial-grade control systems that use microcontrollers and CAN bus communications or equivalent
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Proven cross-functional leadership and collaboration skills
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce clear and concise technical documentation
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to move up to 50 lbs
