Amperesand is building next-generation power infrastructure systems for data centers, EV charging platforms, and future energy applications. The company combines advanced power electronics, embedded controls, and scalable energy architectures to modernize how power is converted, controlled, and deployed.
You will serve as Amperesand's primary technical authority on grid integration and interconnection, acting as the key interface between Amperesand and external stakeholders including utilities, engineering-procurement-construction (EPC) firms, and customers. This is a strategic, high-visibility role with significant autonomy and responsibility.
Key responsibilities include:
- Validate PSCAD, PSSE, and other electrical models produced by the Controls team, ensuring they align across EMT and EMS domains and meet product requirements
- Utilize simulation tools to study, develop, and optimize reference architectures for Amperesand's customer base
- Develop and maintain comprehensive technical packages (documentation, test results, electrical models) for use by customers, EPCs, and utilities; guide stakeholders in their application
- Interact with utilities, national laboratories, and researchers to analyze sector trends and serve as a strategic voice on utility-sector needs
- Partner with the Policy lead to track regulatory changes related to large load connections and load flexibility, translating implications into technical guidance
- Support the Product team in cataloging grid-connection requirements including ride-through standards and grid codes
- Collaborate across Sales, Customer Programs, Product, Engineering, and Compliance teams to land projects and ensure deployment excellence
- Occasionally provide on-site oversight of product deployment
This role requires deep technical expertise in power systems and grid interconnection, combined with strong cross-functional leadership and customer-facing communication skills.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or related field (advanced degree preferred)
- Proficiency with PSCAD and PSSE (or comparable EMT/phasor-domain simulation tools)
- Experience with MW-scale power electronics, grid-tie inverters, or renewable/storage integration, and MV electrical infrastructure design
- Experience with grid interconnection processes for utility-scale generation or storage assets, including direct engagement with utilities and EPCs
- Familiarity with relevant interconnection standards and grid codes (IEEE 1547, NERC reliability standards, regional utility interconnection requirements, ride-through requirements) and experience tracking evolving grid policy including large load and load flexibility rules
- Strong communication skills with ability to serve as senior technical liaison across internal and external stakeholders in customer-facing settings
- Ability to travel to customer/project sites as needed
Nice to have:
- Startup experience
- Experience validating power system models against field or test data and translating findings into actionable feedback for model developers
- Cross-functional experience with sales, product management, and product design/engineering teams
