CesiumAstro develops communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. We are seeking a Staff Applications Engineer to join our rapidly growing customer-facing team.
In this role, you will serve as a technical expert representing CesiumAstro's products, building relationships with customers from the marketing stage through in-orbit support. You will play a crucial role in delivering seamless user experiences for space communication systems designed to work out of the box.
Your day-to-day work will be varied and dynamic. You will spend time in the lab with design engineers learning hardware and software details, shape the product roadmap by providing customer feedback and acting as the "Voice of the Customer" to developers, teach customers how to use our products at their facilities or via video calls, and author application notes and diagrams to ensure users have a truly functional space communication system.
Key responsibilities include:
- Guide technical customers through product use and integration
- Author technical application notes, user manuals, and white papers
- Transfer customer feedback to product development teams
- Build long-term relationships with technical customers
- Rapidly understand, troubleshoot, and solve customer-reported anomalies
- Develop processes and procedures for product development and application
- Become a technical expert in RF, digital, and power electronics; embedded software; FPGAs; DSP; mechanical integration; and end-to-end wireless communication links
- Provide technical leadership and direction to the Business Development Team
This role is heavily focused on technical customer interaction and requires exceptional technical communication skills. Candidates with relevant work samples such as public application notes or user manuals are highly preferred. The role may require up to 20% travel to customer facilities and trade shows.
U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status is required to comply with U.S. Government Space Technology Export Regulations.
REQUIREMENTS:
- At least 8 years of relevant experience in technical product development or application support
- Working knowledge of RF electronics and communication systems
- Experience with FPGA and embedded software for software-defined radio applications
- Exceptional technical communication skills
- Experience building relationships with technical customers
- Experience with methodical troubleshooting of electronics and software
- Working software proficiency in C/C++ or Python
- In-depth experience with RF electronics and communication systems, including link budgets
- Experience with a broad range of technical areas: high-speed digital systems (10+ Gbps), power electronics, FPGAs, DSP, embedded software, and mechanical interfaces (thermal, dynamics)
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Work samples of technical communication (public app notes or user manuals)
- Experience with high-reliability electronics in aerospace
- Experience with small satellites
- Experience in technical product planning, marketing, or sales
- Experience crafting technical solutions for customer proposals
