Oura is seeking a Staff Antenna Design Engineer to develop high-performing miniaturized antennas and RF solutions for next-generation wearable products. The Oura Ring is an award-winning health tracking device used by millions globally, and this role is central to advancing its wireless capabilities.
You will design, simulate, and optimize antennas for low-power wearable devices, including multi-band, multi-system solutions. Key responsibilities include performing electromagnetic simulations using tools like CST Microwave Studio or Ansys HFSS, validating designs through bench and over-the-air (OTA) measurements, and rapidly prototyping to evaluate design concepts. You'll collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, electrical, and firmware teams to integrate antennas into highly constrained form factors—a core challenge in wearable design.
Additional responsibilities include conducting OTA performance testing, driving root cause analysis for antenna issues in prototypes and production, working with suppliers and manufacturing partners to maintain performance through production, and documenting design processes for knowledge sharing and regulatory compliance. You'll stay current on emerging materials and methods in miniature antenna design and travel 5–20% yearly to support prototype builds in Europe and Asia.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in antenna and RF design, preferably for compact consumer electronics, wearables, or IoT devices
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field
- Proficiency with electromagnetic simulation tools (CST Microwave Studio, Ansys HFSS, or equivalent)
- Experience with antenna measurement tools (vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, radio communication testers, OTA chambers)
- Strong understanding of RF fundamentals, antenna concepts, matching networks, and PCB layout considerations
- Proven ability to collaborate across disciplines and communicate technical concepts clearly
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (FCC, ETSI, ITU)
Nice to have:
- Experience designing antennas for wearable or ultra-compact devices
- Familiarity with Bluetooth, BLE, NFC, wireless charging, and multi-system antenna solutions
- Knowledge of SAR compliance and RF regulatory requirements
- Experience working with overseas manufacturing partners
