Wayve is building an AI platform for autonomous driving using end-to-end learning approaches. This role leads the Vehicle Software SRE team from the ground up, responsible for building the software that brings autonomous-driving technology onto real vehicles safely and reliably.
You will manage a growing SRE engineering team, handling hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development. Your day-to-day includes interviewing and coaching engineers, collaborating with engineering managers and technical leads on reliability risks and prioritization, and staying hands-on by designing solutions, writing production code, and reviewing critical changes alongside your team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building the Vehicle Software SRE team charter, structure, hiring plan, operating model, and technical strategy
- Establishing reliability foundations for onboard software and deployment workflows across vehicle platforms and markets
- Defining service-level indicators, objectives, error budgets, and production-readiness standards
- Developing observability, health signals, and diagnostic tools for onboard compute, sensors, networking, and vehicle data
- Implementing safer deployment and recovery through automated validation, release gates, smoke tests, rollback mechanisms, and resilience testing
- Designing incident-response workflows, runbooks, escalation paths, and sustainable on-call practices
- Creating automation and self-service tools to reduce manual operational work and enable fleet operations scaling
- Leading technical investigations and incident reviews, turning findings into concrete fixes
- Communicating technical decisions, trade-offs, and results to engineering and company leadership
Wayve operates a hybrid model with main hubs in London, Sunnyvale, Yokohama, Herzliya, Vancouver, and Leonberg. The company is early-stage in many processes and values people who want real ownership and can help shape how the organization works.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of engineering-management experience with direct responsibility for hiring, performance management, coaching, and career development
- 8+ years of experience building or operating complex production software, with depth in SRE, production engineering, platform engineering, embedded systems, or related field
- Demonstrated track record of building or substantially reshaping an engineering team or capability, setting technical direction, clarifying ownership, and aligning partners around difficult trade-offs
- Hands-on ability to write production-quality code, design systems, and lead substantive code reviews with strong technical judgment in Linux and distributed systems
- Applied experience with SLOs, error budgets, observability, incident management, and release-safety practices to deliver measurable improvements
- Ability to build inclusive team culture with clear accountability, thoughtful feedback, and blameless incident learning
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Bonus: experience with autonomous vehicles, robotics, automotive, or safety-critical systems
