Yalo is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to technically lead the Core Services Platform, the foundational infrastructure supporting all Yalo products and AI agents. This is a high-impact role combining architecture ownership with hands-on technical leadership.
You will own the architecture of Core Services, including the channel and webhook pipeline, accounts, identity, and entitlements systems. Key responsibilities include leading technical delivery, scoping work, unblocking engineers, and reviewing designs and code. You'll leverage AI coding agents for implementation, testing, and review while maintaining high PR throughput. The role demands ensuring platform reliability and observability through clear team ownership, dashboards, alerts, and on-call incident response.
You will lead platform migrations, govern event and message schemas safely, and integrate external platform changes. You'll manage billing and credits models, monitor costs, and collaborate with DevOps to optimize spending and reduce waste. Mentoring team members, setting engineering standards, and documenting design reviews are core responsibilities. Cross-functional collaboration ensures platform capabilities align with product needs.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
- 8+ years building and operating back-end services with staff-level engineering or tech lead experience
- Proficient in Go, Python, SQL with strong microservices and API development experience
- Expertise in event-driven architectures and Kafka
- Experience with GCP, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems design
- Experience with identity, authentication, and authorization systems
- Hands-on experience with AI coding agents and maintaining high PR throughput
- Proficiency in observability and reliability practices
- Problem-solving skills in fast-growing platforms with unclear ownership
PREFERRED:
- Experience with messaging channel APIs (WhatsApp Business, Meta Cloud API)
- Knowledge of Node.js, TypeScript, and schema governance
- Experience with billing, metering, or usage-based pricing systems
- Previous role as tech lead or engineering manager of a small team
