ServiceNow is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to join the Agentic Playbook team, a rapidly expanding platform that sequences work between AI Agents, automations, and people across enterprise applications. This role combines AI power, predictable automated flows, and human judgment within a single governed process running on ServiceNow's enterprise Flow Engine.
In this position, you will design architecture for the next generation of automated process design and execution, enabling customers to work more efficiently. You'll leverage your expertise in modern web experiences, performance optimization, and object-oriented design to push the platform's boundaries. Key responsibilities include:
- Designing scalable architecture for agentic process automation and execution
- Building highly interactive, web-based application UIs that scale with application complexity
- Creating tools, libraries, and frameworks for other developers to build upon
- Collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to develop and improve platform features
- Applying new technology and innovation to enhance platform functionality
- Mentoring colleagues and promoting knowledge-sharing across teams
- Driving complex technical initiatives from design through delivery
Agentic Playbooks can be built via drag-and-drop diagram experience or agentic tools like Build Agent. Once running, stakeholders interact through an AI-native UI with real-time updates or conversationally via Teams, Slack, and MCP protocols, enabling external AI assistants to interact directly with running Playbooks.

REQUIREMENTS:
- 12+ years of experience building scalable software applications using Java or similar object-oriented programming language
- Strong experience with JavaScript or TypeScript and modern frontend engineering practices
- Experience with React, Angular, Vue, or similar UI frameworks
- Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and performance optimization
- Experience building reusable, maintainable systems and components for large-scale applications
- Proven ability to solve significant technical problems with broad impact across teams or product areas
- Demonstrated expertise in architecture, technical strategy, and driving complex initiatives from design through delivery
- Experience mentoring engineers and influencing engineering excellence through reviews, standards, and technical leadership
- Practical experience using AI-assisted coding tools to improve development workflows and engineering productivity
- Good judgment in applying emerging agentic development capabilities without compromising quality, security, or maintainability
- Strong analytical and software design skills
