Mariana Minerals is a software-first, vertically integrated minerals company building autonomous mining vehicles to supply critical minerals for modern energy, AI, and defense technologies. The company combines deep industry expertise with advanced software, automation, and data-driven decision-making to reimagine the minerals supply chain.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Autonomy team, you will own the core onboard software stack that enables safe, reliable autonomous mining vehicle operation. Your work spans the full stack from raw sensor data to vehicle motion control, including sensor drivers, data pipelines, time synchronization, calibration, deployment infrastructure, cloud data handoff, simulation, testing, and drive-by-wire integration.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and maintaining the onboard software stack for autonomous mining vehicles, running on industrial PCs in harsh environments (dust, vibration, heat)
- Owning time synchronization and calibration across LiDAR, cameras, radar, IMU, and GNSS sensors
- Developing data pipelines to move sensor and telemetry data from vehicles to the cloud, including logging, recording, and labeling for perception development
- Creating deployment, monitoring, and fault-management tooling for fleet-wide vehicle updates and operations without individual vehicle access
- Developing equipment simulations, test infrastructure, field log replay, and vehicle models for performance evaluation
- Integrating with drive-by-wire systems and implementing low-level control logic, safety layers, degraded operating modes, and e-stop behavior
- Collaborating with machine learning, hardware, controls, and mine operations teams to ensure the autonomy system meets operational requirements
This is a hands-on, first-principles role where you will carry work from design through implementation, simulation, and real-world validation at mine sites. You'll work directly with hardware and field teams to get autonomous mining systems operational.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
- 5-8+ years building software for robots, vehicles, or other systems that operate in the physical world
- Strong proficiency in C++ and/or Python
- Experience with Linux and robotics middleware (ROS/ROS 2)
- Hands-on experience with sensor drivers, data pipelines, time synchronization, or calibration for LiDAR, cameras, radar, IMU, or GNSS
- Working knowledge of real-time and embedded systems, networking, and debugging across the software-hardware boundary
- Experience with simulation, logging and replay, or test and deployment infrastructure for robotics systems
- Experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, automotive, or off-highway equipment strongly preferred
