ServiceNow is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Workflow Data Fabric and Integration Hub team in Hyderabad. This is a backend-focused role where you will own significant components end-to-end, drive technical design for integration and protocol capabilities used by thousands of customers, and raise the engineering bar for the team. Prior ServiceNow experience is a plus but not required; the company expects the ability to ramp quickly on the platform.
You will own a feature area or component end-to-end, including technical direction, design, build, test, documentation, release, and post-release health. Key responsibilities include authoring and reviewing design documents for integration and protocol interfaces that customers can extend and customize; defining versioning and backward compatibility strategy for public contracts; designing for failure and scale with explicit failure modes; leading investigation of complex, escalated customer integration failures; identifying and paying down technical debt and performance bottlenecks; mentoring IC1 and IC2 engineers through design reviews and code reviews; and collaborating with product management, UX, quality engineering, and adjacent platform teams.
The role emphasizes deep backend engineering fundamentals, distributed systems design, API design and security, data modeling and SQL optimization at scale, observability from the start, automated testing and CI/CD pipeline design, and ServiceNow platform scripting (Glide APIs, Script Includes, Business Rules, Scripted REST APIs) and Flow Designer spoke development.
Good-to-have skills include protocol-level work (JSON-RPC, WebSockets, Server-Sent Events, streaming), Kubernetes deployment experience (AWS EKS, Azure AKS, Google GKE), Model Context Protocol (MCP) and agent-facing API design, JDBC/ODBC driver experience, platform or developer-facing product experience, and React or comparable frontend framework knowledge.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of owning backend systems or services in production
- Expert-level Java or JavaScript/Node.js with strong computer science fundamentals
- Demonstrated experience designing, consuming, and debugging integrations against third-party systems, including handling undocumented or inconsistent behavior
- Strong working knowledge of OAuth 2.0, JWT, mutual TLS, and API key authentication flows, and security trade-offs between them
- Experience designing APIs or extension points with backward compatibility and versioning requirements
- Proven debugging and root-cause analysis across system boundaries in production environments
- Data modeling, SQL, and query optimization for large datasets
- Automated testing as part of own delivery and experience improving test strategy for a team
- Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical design discussions
- Agile, sprint-based development experience
- Clear written communication, including design documents and technical decision records
