Lago operates three home furnishings e-commerce storefronts with a catalog of 100,000+ SKUs. The company has built a custom technology stack featuring a Django backend, React storefront on Cloudflare Workers, and data pipelines that ingest and transform vendor data from spreadsheets, emails, SFTP, and websites. You'll work alongside the lead developer to extend and improve this platform, focusing on solving practical business problems: fixing unreliable vendor feeds, clarifying pricing logic, building APIs, improving product data quality, and replacing manual workflows with reliable software. Key areas of work include: **Product Data:** Vendor imports and feeds, in-house PIM, categorization, images, and data quality across a large, inconsistent catalog. **Inventory & Pricing:** Feed ingestion via AWS Lambda, S3, SFTP; vendor scrapers; and pricing, deals, and cart logic. **Storefront API:** Building and testing Django backend API endpoints to replace Shopify with a custom solution. **Search:** Elasticsearch-backed search, facets, and recommendations. **Internal Tools & Automation:** Identifying manual, repetitive work across merchandising, customer service, and operations, then replacing it with reliable solutions—scripts, admin screens, or LLM-based workflows as appropriate. **Infrastructure:** Moving hand-built AWS and Cloudflare resources to OpenTofu; infrastructure-as-code exposure is useful but not required. The team values engineers who investigate problems thoroughly, write meaningful tests, communicate clearly, and use AI coding assistants productively while remaining accountable for shipped code. Work practices emphasize test-first development, typed and reviewed code, small focused pull requests, careful production changes, and productive use of AI tools with full code ownership. **Requirements:** - Strong Python programming skills and production software experience - Solid SQL and PostgreSQL knowledge, including query performance investigation - Solid experience building and consuming APIs (Django Ninja, Pydantic, OpenAPI) - Experience processing real-world data from CSV/Excel, external feeds, scraping, or ETL pipelines - Sufficient React and TypeScript experience to contribute to frontend work when needed - Strong testing practices with assertions against specific business outcomes - Good engineering judgment choosing between scripts, application features, process improvements, and AI-based automation - Clear written communication for pull requests, documentation, tickets, and collaboration - Ability to investigate unfamiliar systems, work independently, and deliver maintainable solutions **Preferred Qualifications:** - Hands-on Django experience (ORM, migrations, admin tools) - Familiarity with Django Ninja, Pydantic, OpenAPI, or similar API tools - E-commerce experience (product catalogs, PIM, order management, checkout, Stripe) - Elasticsearch or similar search platform experience - AWS Lambda, S3, ECS, Cloudflare Workers, or OpenTofu/Terraform experience - Large product catalog or data-intensive retail systems experience - Practical AI coding assistant experience in reviewed, test-driven workflows
