Salary: CAD 168,300 - 217,800 / annual
Thumbtack is a home services marketplace that connects millions of homeowners with local service professionals. The Business Analytics team drives strategic insights across the company, owning key metrics, dashboards, and analyses that shape company strategy and execution.
In this Senior Data Scientist role on Business Analytics, you will drive insights and action across the marketplace with a focus on conversion and monetization. You'll be a steward of key company metrics and dashboards, diving deep on analytical questions critical to Thumbtack's success. This is a high-visibility role partnering directly with leadership to develop company strategy, share performance updates with the Board, and work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Operations, and Finance to translate analysis into decisions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Define, monitor, and report on key metrics measuring Thumbtack's success
- Lead business performance analysis and reporting that surfaces emerging risks and opportunities for leadership
- Conduct deep-dive analyses answering critical strategic questions
- Support and improve the company revenue forecasting model and broader forecasting/planning process
- Build and maintain dashboards and self-serve tools relied upon across the company
- Partner with cross-functional teams to translate insight into action
- Strengthen data culture through peer collaboration, review, training, and coaching
Requirements:
- 6+ years of experience in a highly analytical role, preferably in tech; marketplace or two-sided platform experience is a plus
- Proficiency with SQL and Python or R for analyzing large datasets
- Strong analytical problem-solving: solid statistics foundation, strong business judgment, comfort navigating ambiguity, ability to synthesize insights
- Experience partnering with executives to understand business needs and drive decisions
- Strong communication skills—attentive listener and compelling explainer for technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience using AI to automate workflows and enable self-serve analytics
- Experience with revenue modeling and forecasting, ideally in high-growth or public company environments
