Diamond Foundry is solving thermal limitations in AI & cloud compute, electric-vehicle power electronics, and 5G/6G wireless by producing single-crystal diamond wafers. The company has achieved unicorn status with $515M in funding and is executing a multi-billion-dollar expansion plan focused on sustainable manufacturing—converting greenhouse gas into diamond wafers using zero-emission energy. You will develop and troubleshoot software and control systems for our advanced manufacturing line. This role bridges software engineering and hands-on hardware work: you'll write production Python code to control equipment, then step onto the shop floor to wire, test, and physically troubleshoot systems. You'll work with a spectrum of custom-built and off-the-shelf equipment, collaborating with experienced mechanical, electrical, and process engineers. Key responsibilities include: - Design, upgrade, automate, and troubleshoot in-house and third-party systems (inspection tools, CNC lasers, parts handlers, CVD reactors). Optimize control logic to enhance equipment performance and minimize operator interaction time. - Collaborate with end users to translate feature requests into actionable software design. Build algorithms and models to support data-driven decision-making. - Train technicians on correct procedures and implement requested changes. Organize and maintain documentation for team understanding and use. - Write technical documentation for equipment design and operation. - Source system components from software vendors where appropriate. You'll achieve maximum productivity for the production line through improved data collection methods, device programming, workflow automation, and communication with various device types using different protocols. REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or similar engineering discipline (Master's degree preferred) with 2+ years of experience in systems engineering. - Proficiency in Python required. Knowledge of programming languages and fieldbus protocols including: PLC programming, TCP/IP, MQTT, IIoT, Modbus, RS232, SCADA, Motion Control. - Experience with electrical, software, and/or mechanical systems. Familiarity with manufacturing processes or quality control systems. - Strong communication and data presentation skills, with ability to effectively communicate data through text, graphics, and images to audiences of all experience levels. Experience with data visualization tools or HMI (Human Machine Interface) development. - Familiarity with computer vision systems and image processing. Experience with industrial automation environments and understanding of industrial networking protocols. - Physical requirements: ability to use PPE and follow safety policies; frequent sitting, standing, walking, grasping, reaching, lifting (below and above shoulders), bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, stooping, squatting, kneeling, crawling, talking, hearing, seeing, fine finger manipulation, and repetitive motions. Some tasks may require ladders, stairs, driving, or foot controls. Ability to lift/carry and push/pull up to 50 pounds.
