Afresh is an AI platform for grocery that helps major retailers like Albertsons, Meijer, and Wakefern make smarter decisions across their enterprise. The company has achieved 70% revenue growth in 2025, scaled to 6 enterprise-grade solutions live in over 10% of the U.S. grocery market, and prevented over 200 million pounds of food waste last year.
You will join the Ordering Pod as a Senior Backend Engineer to own the development of Afresh's high-revenue, flagship AI ordering product. This is a pivotal role where you will define the architectural roadmap for next-generation systems and tackle challenging engineering problems that directly enable business expansion.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the design, building, and deployment of highly scalable and robust APIs, making critical architectural decisions that shape the platform
- Partner with Product, Account Management, and peer engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions that serve client needs
- Contribute to the vision of the next-generation Ordering product while supporting the current iPad solution
- Enforce best practices for testing and releases to maintain high standards of system reliability
- Step into a mentorship role to guide junior engineers and contribute to the team's growth

REQUIREMENTS:
- BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- 4+ years of software development experience
- Proven ability to lead and drive projects through the entire development lifecycle, from conception to launch, with a high degree of autonomy
- Strong desire to learn and master new technologies to meet evolving platform needs
- Readiness to mentor junior engineers and contribute to team growth
- Curiosity about complex systems and understanding of intricate business domains and dependencies
- Strong team player who actively participates in team ceremonies, code reviews, and collaborative problem-solving
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience with Agile software delivery cycles
- Use of modern AI-powered tools to accelerate development
- Experience with TypeScript and cloud technologies, particularly Azure
