H1 is building a platform to provide optimal healthcare information globally, using data and AI to unlock medical insights and improve patient outcomes. The Cloud Infrastructure and DevOps team is responsible for building, automating, and optimizing the AWS infrastructure that powers H1's healthcare data platforms and applications.
In this role, you'll be a hands-on technical contributor designing, building, and managing AWS cloud infrastructure at scale. This position focuses on cloud infrastructure engineering, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, and cost optimization rather than traditional Site Reliability Engineering (SRE). You'll partner closely with Software Engineering, Data Engineering, and other technical teams to provision new infrastructure, improve existing environments, automate manual processes, and support the evolving needs of H1's applications and data platforms. You'll also contribute to database infrastructure and operational support, helping improve troubleshooting and resolution of database-related challenges across US-based projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, build, and manage scalable AWS cloud infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code best practices
- Own infrastructure projects end-to-end, from technical design and provisioning through deployment, troubleshooting, and optimization
- Build and maintain AWS environments leveraging IAM, S3, EKS, EMR, and supporting cloud services
- Develop automation and self-service capabilities using Python and scripting to streamline infrastructure provisioning and reduce manual effort
- Optimize AWS infrastructure costs through resource utilization analysis, cost dashboards, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines using CircleCI, partnering with engineering teams to support application and infrastructure deployments
- Support infrastructure and database-related troubleshooting, collaborating with engineering and database teams to resolve issues and improve operational efficiency
You're a hands-on AWS Cloud Infrastructure Engineer who enjoys building systems, solving complex technical challenges, and automating repetitive work. You have deep experience provisioning and managing cloud infrastructure through Terraform and are comfortable owning projects independently, from initial design through production deployment. You understand how cloud infrastructure supports modern SaaS applications and large-scale data platforms, and you're motivated by finding ways to make environments more scalable, secure, efficient, and cost-effective. You thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where priorities evolve, take ownership of technical challenges, and bring a practical, solutions-oriented approach to your work.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ years of hands-on experience in cloud infrastructure engineering or DevOps, including 5+ years working extensively with AWS
- Strong expertise designing, building, and managing AWS infrastructure, including IAM, S3, EKS (Kubernetes), and EMR
- Advanced proficiency with Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC), infrastructure provisioning, and automation
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration in AWS environments
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, preferably using CircleCI
- Proficiency in Python and/or Bash scripting to automate infrastructure workflows and reduce manual processes
- Experience with AWS cost optimization, resource utilization, and cloud infrastructure security and networking
- Experience supporting or troubleshooting production databases, ideally within AWS environments
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to independently own complex infrastructure projects and collaborate across engineering teams
