Salary: USD 144,020 - 184,026 / annual

Varda Space Industries is building commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing systems, reentry capsules, and satellite buses. The company designs, builds, and operates all components in-house, from heat shields to processing payloads. As a Spacecraft Flight Software Engineer II, you will be responsible for developing reliable flight software that determines how Varda's spacecraft, satellite bus, and reentry capsule operate throughout their entire missions. You will own all aspects of software development from design through testing and integration, working on bare metal, RTOS, or Linux-based embedded systems in C++. Key responsibilities include: - Developing reliable flight software for spacecraft, satellite bus, and reentry capsule operations - Writing quality structured code in C++ for embedded processors - Owning all aspects of software development: design, testing, and integration - Scoping projects including requirements capture and initial design trades for open-ended problems - Ensuring system quality and performance through software test, verification, and validation (V&V) techniques - Collaborating with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment Varda's team includes veterans from SpaceX, Blue Origin, major pharmaceutical companies, and Silicon Valley. Varda maintains offices and production facilities in El Segundo (headquarters), Washington DC, and Huntsville, AL. Note: This role requires U.S. person status (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to ITAR export control requirements. REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's degree in computer science, math, physics, engineering, or equivalent technical experience in safety-critical software - 3+ years of experience developing spacecraft or similar safety-critical software - Strong proficiency in C++ with deep understanding of language concepts Preferred qualifications: - End-to-end experience building and launching a spacecraft - Experience developing and testing real-time embedded systems - Experience with safety-critical software for aerospace applications - Knowledge of CCSDS telemetry and telecommand systems - Experience with F' or cFS frameworks - Proficiency in Python or Rust - Knowledge of basic analog and digital electronics - Familiarity with SPI, I2C, CAN, or EtherCAT protocols
