Salary: USD 144,020 - 184,026 / annual

Varda Space Industries is building commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing systems, reentry capsules, and satellite buses. The company designs, manufactures, and operates its W-Series vehicles in-house, with leadership and engineering talent from SpaceX, Blue Origin, and major pharmaceutical companies. As an Embedded Software Engineer II on the Flight Software team, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the firmware that controls how Varda's spacecraft, satellite bus, and reentry capsule operate throughout their entire mission lifecycle. This is a hands-on engineering role with ownership across all phases of software development. Key responsibilities include: - Developing reliable firmware in C++ to control spacecraft, satellite bus, and reentry capsule operations through complete mission profiles - Owning all aspects of software development from design through testing and integration - Scoping projects, capturing requirements, and conducting design trades for open-ended problems - Writing quality structured code for embedded processors using bare metal, RTOS, or Linux-based systems - Building highly reliable and available software systems with rigorous verification and validation (V&V) techniques - Supporting flight operations and mission success This role is based in El Segundo, CA, where Varda operates its primary engineering facility, production facility, and integration/test operations. The company also has offices in Washington, DC and Huntsville, AL. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: - Bachelor's degree in computer science, math, physics, engineering, or equivalent technical experience in safety-critical software - 3+ years of experience developing spacecraft or similar safety-critical software - Experience developing and testing real-time embedded hardware/software systems - Proficiency in C++ with strong understanding of language concepts Preferred: - Experience with safety-critical software in aerospace applications - Additional programming languages such as Python or Rust - Strong understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, data structures, and computer networking Note: Due to ITAR export control requirements, only U.S. persons are eligible (U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or individuals admitted as refugees/granted asylum).
