August is building an autonomous organization of AI agents that enable law firms to scale their knowledge work. The company partners with elite law firms, sharing revenue on deployed agents and equity in transformed firms. August targets the $1T legal services market by embedding AI agents into every step of a lawyer's workflow—from document review and drafting to intake and matter management.
As a Solutions Engineer, you will be the hands-on technical bridge between August's AI platform and law firm clients. You will embed directly with client organizations to understand their workflows, systems, and pain points, then design and deploy AI-powered solutions tailored to their needs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Running structured discovery sessions across law firm teams (lawyers, paralegals, legal ops, technical staff) to map workflows, systems, and data flows and identify high-impact AI opportunities.
- Translating day-to-day pain points into clear technical requirements and practical solutions through one-on-one stakeholder conversations.
- Building and testing lightweight proofs-of-concept for document review, form filling, intake, drafting, redlining, and matter management using APIs, scripts, and workflow automation.
- Configuring AI workflows and integrating them with client systems, working with technical teams on validation and troubleshooting before go-live.
- Running hands-on demos and training sessions to drive user adoption and understanding.
- Owning the full deployment lifecycle from kickoff through adoption, coordinating resources and resolving issues.
- Serving as the trusted technical point of contact for client stakeholders, running check-ins and business reviews.
- Translating deployment findings into actionable feedback for August's engineering team on product improvements and integration needs.
The role is based in August's New York office and requires in-person collaboration with a lean, fast-moving team.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 1–3 years of hands-on experience in solutions engineering, implementation engineering, technical consulting, software engineering, or similar roles with direct customer interaction.
- Strong technical problem-solving: ability to break down unfamiliar workflows, understand system interactions, and build practical solutions.
- Comfort writing lightweight scripts, working with APIs and structured data, and debugging integrations. Python or JavaScript experience is especially valuable.
- Strong product sense: understanding what makes workflows painful and translating that into usable solutions.
- Business acumen and clear communication skills to earn trust with managing partners, legal ops analysts, and technical stakeholders.
- Natural curiosity and comfort with ambiguity; ability to ask good questions and take ownership without established playbooks.
- Familiarity with AI tools, LLM-powered applications, or workflow automation platforms (Zapier, Make, n8n) is helpful.
- Background in law or legal services is a plus but not required.
- Excitement about working in person in NYC with a team that values precision, pace, and constant reinvention.
