Sakana AI is a world-leading AI research company developing unique generative AI technologies inspired by nature. The Platform Team is seeking a Software Engineer to design, develop, and operate reusable platform modules—including agent execution infrastructure, evaluation infrastructure, and knowledge bases—that serve as the foundation for delivering cutting-edge research as enterprise solutions.
Your role will focus on building infrastructure that is not just technically robust but also intuitive for its users: internal and external developers building solutions on the platform, as well as AI agents themselves. You will approach this work with a product mindset, designing the platform starting from user experience rather than purely from an infrastructure perspective.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, development, and operation of reusable Platform modules (agent execution infrastructure, evaluation infrastructure, knowledge base, etc.) used across multiple solutions
- Collaboration with Solution and Product teams to integrate Platform components into projects, improving development efficiency and quality
- Construction and operation of production infrastructure supporting CI/CD, monitoring, scaling, and security
- Provision of SDKs, templates, documentation, and agent skills for Platform users; active collection of developer feedback through collaboration and proactive engagement to drive platform improvements
- Collaboration in a global team using both Japanese and English
This position is based in Japan and requires business-level Japanese communication skills and English text-based communication ability.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience in Platform, Infrastructure, or SRE
- Backend development experience with Python, TypeScript, or Java
- Experience designing and operating production systems using container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes)
- Experience building systems on public clouds (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Practical experience with CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, etc.)
- Experience developing applications or infrastructure using LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc.)
- Product mindset focused on designing and developing from user experience
- Strong motivation for improving development productivity and process automation
- Japanese business communication skills (JLPT N2 level or equivalent practical experience)
- English text-based business communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Frontend development experience with React, Next.js, TypeScript
- Experience with AI agent frameworks (LangGraph, Mastra, OpenAI Agents SDK) or MCP
- Experience designing and building observability infrastructure (Datadog, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry)
- LLMOps experience (prompt management, evaluation pipelines, tracing infrastructure like Langfuse or MLflow)
- Experience designing LLM evaluations (evaluation datasets, LLM-as-judge validation, metric design)
- Experience developing applications and infrastructure using LLMs and AI agents (Function calling, MCP, multi-agent systems)
- Experience providing and promoting internal platforms and developer tools (Platform Engineering / DevOps)
- Experience in an AI/ML startup
- Data governance and compliance experience in large-scale organizations
- OSS contributions or technical advocacy track record
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
- Business-level English conversation skills
