UNIPaaS is an AI-native payments platform built for vertical software, helping platforms and marketplaces turn payments into a growth lever. Founded in 2020 by payments-industry veterans, the company serves customers across the UK, Europe, and the US in education, healthcare, and field services. R&D is based in Tel Aviv; commercial operations are in London.
You will lead a software engineering team reporting to the VP of R&D, responsible for building the systems that authorize, settle, and reconcile every transaction the platform processes. This is a hands-on leadership role where you remain deeply technical while developing and advancing your team.
Key responsibilities:
- Write and review code while owning architecture on a distributed, event-driven platform handling multi-vendor, multi-method, regulated payments
- Own your team's delivery, technical approach, and production reliability; participate in on-call rotation
- Develop engineers through hands-on mentorship, 1:1s, clear feedback, and recruitment as the team grows
- Set technical direction for your team's systems and make architectural decisions
- Lead adoption of agentic engineering tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex) within the team and contribute to agent-driven customer-facing flows
The engineering culture emphasizes generalists with end-to-end ownership, clean architecture, deep systems thinking, and production-grade code quality. Advancement is driven by taking on harder problems and greater ownership, not headcount.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years in engineering, including 2–3 years leading engineers as a team lead, tech lead, or manager; remainder spent building production systems hands-on
- Demonstrated track record developing engineers: hiring, mentoring, giving clear feedback, growing scope and autonomy
- Deep proficiency in at least one modern language; comfort with TypeScript/Node.js (company stack) or ability to ramp quickly
- Solid grounding in distributed systems at production scale on a major cloud provider (AWS): event-driven architectures, container orchestration, infrastructure as code, observability, debugging, incident response
- Fluency with agentic engineering tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or equivalents) in day-to-day work, not just experimentation
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience shipping AI or agentic features into production product surfaces
- Background in fintech, payments, or marketplace platforms
- Experience leading a team through real adoption of agents beyond pilot stage
