Rerun is building a multimodal data stack for Physical AI, with an open-source viewer and SDKs for visualizing and handling large-scale robot and sensor data. The company also operates Rerun Hub, a purpose-built database for querying and visualizing petabyte-scale archives. In this role, you will build and evolve the Rerun viewer and cross-language SDKs to handle large volumes of 2D, 3D, time-series, and statistical data in real time. You'll integrate the viewer seamlessly with Rerun Hub so users can work with data far larger than their local machine without friction. You'll make technology and architecture decisions across the full stack while keeping the system maintainable as data volume grows. You'll work closely with the Hub, backend, and design teams, collaborating on problems that span multiple boundaries. You'll profile and optimize user workflows across desktop and web platforms, contribute to downstream open-source projects when needed, and work directly with the Rerun community and customers running large datasets to help them achieve great results. Rerun is a remote-first company headquartered in Stockholm. The team meets in person roughly once per quarter. The engineering team spans European and US-east timezones, with core collaboration hours between 1:30–5:00 PM CET. The company offers competitive cash and equity, six weeks paid vacation, and all necessary hardware and software. REQUIREMENTS: - Strong programming skills in Rust or another compiled language; fluency in the Rust codebase required, but production Rust experience not mandatory. - Generalist with UI skills; ability to move between interface, rendering, data handling, and infrastructure. - Experience with interactive data visualization, particularly large datasets and complex visual structures. - Experience building real-time, high-performance applications. - Comfort with ambiguity and ability to identify problems, make decisions, and communicate them. - Great English communication skills for working with community and team. NICE-TO-HAVES: - Open-source contribution or maintenance experience, especially projects with active communities. - Background in robotics (RViz experience a plus), simulation, streaming, rendering, or game engines. - Knowledge of GPU rendering pipelines (e.g., wgpu) and performance optimization.
