CircuitHub is building The Grid, a factory-scale robotics platform that dramatically improves efficiency in small-batch, high-mix electronics assembly. The company has raised $45M from top-tier investors including Plural, Y Combinator, and Google Ventures, is already profitable, and serves major customers including an EV maker and top AI labs. In this role, you will architect the robot operating system and design core abstractions for how robots, cameras, tools, and jobs are modeled. You'll integrate novel computer vision algorithms into the control loop—from part detection and centering to pick-and-place verification—ensuring they're fast and reliable enough for production. You'll build agentic robotics capabilities by deploying large language models and vision-language models directly in the robots themselves for tasks like programming new parts from datasheets, evaluating picks from camera images, and diagnosing and recovering from faults. You'll also move a fleet by routing dozens of movers simultaneously without collisions or deadlocks, coordinate gantries, printers, and ovens, and design clean interfaces between high-level planning and real-time motor controllers. You'll make the system observable through simulation, tracing, and replay capabilities so every change is proven before reaching the factory and every failure can be explained. The tech stack includes Python and Rust for robot software; OpenCV, PyTorch, ONNX Runtime, Claude, and OpenAI APIs for vision and models; OR-Tools for multi-agent path-finding; PostgreSQL, OpenTelemetry, and ClickHouse for data and observability; and Claude Code and Codex for agent-assisted development. Requirements: - Demonstrated experience architecting large-scale robot codebases that ran on real hardware in production - Strong software engineering in Python and Rust (or C++ with willingness to transition to Rust); emphasis on types, testing, concurrency, and clear architecture - Experience with some of: motion or path planning, multi-robot coordination, controls, perception, or scheduling - Hands-on experience applying large models (LLMs or vision-language models) to robotics, or strong drive to develop this capability - Proficiency using coding agents to move faster and take full ownership of their output - Willingness to visit factories in the US and UK to see your code run in production
