Zoox is developing the first ground-up, fully autonomous vehicle fleet and supporting ecosystem. The Software Systems Engineering team defines software development processes and ensures safety-critical software meets production-grade standards for autonomous vehicles.
In this role, you will own and operate the entire SSE pipeline ecosystem—including ClangTidy, ASAN/TSAN/Harden, and FBInfer—ensuring pipelines run smoothly across weekly, nightly, and CI systems so the broader engineering organization can trust results. You will take pipelines from prototype to fully deployed, CI-enforced systems across branches, establishing what "production-grade" means for stability tooling at Zoox.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the complete SSE pipeline infrastructure, maintaining reliability across all testing and integration systems
- Transitioning pipelines from prototypes to production-grade, CI-enforced deployments
- Building dashboards and KPIs that communicate pipeline health and software quality trends to leadership and engineering teams
- Root-causing complex cross-platform and determinism issues, building instrumentation and tooling to resolve them
- Contributing to pipeline suite evolution, including new checker rollouts, testing strategy, and infrastructure scaling
You will work across Zoox's software organization, from state-of-the-art AI autonomy software to highly critical RTOS and middleware components, applying principles from avionics, automotive, and other safety-critical industries.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in computer science, electrical engineering, robotics, aerospace, or related field, plus 3+ years of experience working on large codebases
- Experience developing in Bazel/Python, setting up backend infrastructure (databases, web servers, shell scripts), and interfacing with C++ and Python software
- Proficiency in drafting system design diagrams and documentation for customer communication and long-term maintenance
- Ability to write quick automation scripts for metrics generation, traceability, and similar tasks
- Deep experience with enterprise-scale deployment practices and issues
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with PipeDream, Airflow, and Looker
- Proficiency in ReactJS, TypeScript, and C++ (C++11, C++14, C++17) including memory management, threading, and common debugging patterns
