Swarmbotics AI is a defense-focused swarm robotics company building low-cost Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) for the Department of Defense. The company's flagship product, ANTS (Attritable, Networked, Tactical Swarm), consists of independently-tasked robots that operate autonomously and coordinate as a swarm to execute sophisticated military tasks. The founding team brings decades of experience from NASA, JPL, Cruise, Embark, McKinsey, Amazon, and the CIA.
You will join as a Software Engineer focused on network architecture and teleoperation systems. Your primary responsibility is designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining network software that enables reliable, low-latency command-and-control and video streaming for remote operation of robot swarms beyond line of sight. You will build redundant connectivity solutions ensuring warfighters maintain uninterrupted network access to their swarms across diverse communication channels including mesh radios, mobile satellite (Starlink), and 5G networks—all secured via VPN.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and implementing software for reliable robot teleoperation connectivity with hot failover across redundant communication links
- Configuring and optimizing video and command-and-control data streams for responsive user experience
- Implementing monitoring and tracking metrics for throughput and latency performance across swarms
- Making network design decisions grounded in networking fundamentals (TCP, UDP, routing, NAT traversal) based on hands-on experience with 5G, Starlink, VPNs, and mesh radios
- Developing network-focused connectivity solutions in C++ and Python
- Working with Linux-based network implementations
- Contributing to a fast-paced startup environment with direct impact on defense capabilities
This is a critical role in deploying one of the world's first large-scale ground robot swarms for defense applications.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience designing and implementing software solutions for reliable connectivity for robot teleoperation, particularly hot failover functionality across multiple redundant communication links
- Experience configuring and optimizing video and command-and-control data streams for responsive user experience
- Experience implementing tracking metrics to monitor throughput and latency performance across robot swarms
- Experience making network design decisions based on networking fundamentals (TCP, UDP, routing, NAT traversal) using first-hand experience with 5G, Starlink, VPNs, and/or mesh radios
- Proficiency in C++ and/or Python with experience developing network-focused connectivity solutions
- Familiarity with video streaming concepts, codecs, and performance optimization techniques
- Experience with Linux-based network implementations
- Comfortable working in high-paced, fluid startup environment
- Ability to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance
- Ability to work onsite in Phoenix, AZ area
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with network implementations within Android and Windows desktop environments
- Experience with unmanned ground vehicles or robotic swarms
- Experience with Starlink, 5G modems, and/or MANET radios
