OpenAI's Dots team is building personal AI agents that help users make progress on their goals outside of ChatGPT. These agents learn preferences, maintain context, work across applications, and use cloud computers to execute tasks. The team combines product engineering, design, and research to transform frontier model capabilities into practical everyday experiences.
You will build the mobile web experience for Dots, creating responsive and accessible interfaces that enable users to start work, monitor progress, and guide their agents from phones or browsers. You'll establish interaction patterns for ongoing, asynchronous work and make sophisticated agent capabilities feel intuitive and approachable.
Key responsibilities:
- Design and ship mobile web experiences for task creation, agent activity review, and user feedback/direction
- Build interfaces handling streaming updates, long-running tasks, interrupted sessions, and variable connectivity
- Optimize responsiveness, loading performance, accessibility, and usability across screen sizes and browsers
- Partner with design and product teams to prototype interaction patterns giving users visibility and control over agent actions
- Collaborate with backend and full-stack engineers on APIs, client state, and reliable synchronization between interface and agent services
- Own features from exploration and technical design through launch, measurement, and refinement
- Help establish frontend architecture and engineering practices while remaining hands-on with implementation
You should have substantial experience shipping polished web applications with deep expertise in mobile web development and browser behavior. Strong frontend engineering skills are essential, including responsive layouts, accessibility, client state management, and application performance. You've built interactive interfaces that remain understandable as data or task state changes asynchronously, combining attention to visual and interaction details with sound technical judgment. You can translate ambiguous product problems into working software and use user feedback to iterate. You work well cross-functionally with designers, product partners, researchers, and engineers. You've led complex projects or influenced architecture while continuing to write and ship code. Experience with real-time collaboration, offline or intermittent connectivity, or products managing complex workflows is especially valuable. Prior AI or machine learning experience is helpful but not required.
Requirements:
- Substantial experience shipping polished web applications
- Deep expertise in mobile web development and browser behavior
- Strong frontend engineering skills (responsive layouts, accessibility, client state, performance)
- Experience building interactive interfaces with asynchronous state changes
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects or influence architecture
- Cross-functional collaboration skills with design, product, research, and engineering teams
- Preferred: real-time collaboration, offline/intermittent connectivity, or complex workflow management experience
- Preferred: AI or machine learning background (not required)
