Harmattan AI is a next-generation defense prime building autonomous and scalable defense systems. Following a $200M Series B at $1.4B valuation, the company is expanding teams to deliver mission-critical systems to allied forces.
As a Software Engineer in Mission Execution, you will build the software backbone that translates mission plans into real-time autonomous behavior across fleets of robots and multi-agent systems. You'll own the infrastructure layer responsible for executing missions in the field, working closely with mission planning engineers, simulation engineers, and product teams to ensure reliability, testability, and predictability in live operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and build mission execution infrastructure that converts planned missions into reliable, real-time behavior across autonomous system fleets
- Develop scalable backend services and APIs for mission guidance, orchestration, agent communication, and execution
- Establish and maintain high quality standards through CI/CD pipelines, testing, code review, observability, and release discipline
- Write production-grade C++ and Python for real-time, resource-constrained environments
- Partner with mission planning and product teams to ensure clean algorithm integration, thorough testing, and field deployability
- Analyze logs and telemetry from tests and live operations to identify failure modes and drive systemic improvements

REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Robotics, Aerospace Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Technical skills: Strong coding in C++ and Python with solid software engineering fundamentals (system design, concurrency, testing, debugging)
- Experience building and shipping production software, ideally with distributed or real-time systems
- Nice to have: Robotics, embedded software, or video game development experience (game engines, simulation, deterministic replay, tooling); aerospace or defense background; familiarity with simulation frameworks
