Patch is a Series B climate-tech company building software and market infrastructure to scale unified climate action. The company curates trusted environmental datasets (carbon, renewable energy, sustainable aviation fuel) and helps companies set and meet ambitious climate goals tied to real impact. You will build Patch's market-intelligence foundation—systems that ingest, structure, enrich, and serve information about companies, carbon markets, registries, policies, suppliers, buyers, and climate commitments. This is a core software engineering role, not marketing operations or business analysis. You will work directly with Climate Strategists, Sales, and Marketing teams to understand their workflows, then build durable systems that replace manual research and point-to-point automations. Key responsibilities: - Design and operate systems that ingest messy external data (APIs, websites, registries, PDFs, spreadsheets, public disclosures) and turn fragmented information into reliable, refreshable data products. - Build schemas, entity-resolution workflows, validation checks, provenance tracking, freshness monitoring, and confidence signals to make intelligence trustworthy for advisory and commercial use. - Develop AI-powered research workflows, retrieval systems, MCP tools, agents, and internal applications that help teams discover and act on market intelligence. - Build APIs, internal tools, reports, and workflow integrations that surface intelligence to end users. - Move systems from prototype to production: observable, testable, maintainable software—not just demos. - Own medium-sized projects end-to-end, from ambiguous user need through scoping, design, implementation, rollout, monitoring, and iteration. The role emphasizes shipping and maintaining production systems, moving between backend services, data pipelines, internal tools, and lightweight UIs as needed. You will help shape the roadmap in a small, high-ownership environment. REQUIREMENTS: - Shipped and maintained production software or data systems (ownership and delivery matter more than years of experience). - Strong software engineer in Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript; solid SQL, API, and cloud-infrastructure experience. - Experience with data ingestion, ETL/ELT, web scraping, data modeling, entity resolution, or external API integrations. - Understanding of data trustworthiness: testing, monitoring, versioning, documentation, validation, provenance, and data-quality practices. - Built or operated AI/LLM-powered systems, ideally involving retrieval, tool calling, agents, workflow orchestration, evaluation, or human-in-the-loop review. - Comfortable moving between backend, data pipelines, internal tools, and lightweight UIs based on problem requirements. - Ability to move from ambiguous user need to working prototype to production-grade systems. - Strong systems thinking: upstream/downstream dependencies, reusable components, observability, maintainability, build-versus-buy decisions. - Motivated to work directly with users, understand workflows, and build systems they actually adopt. - Comfortable in small, high-ownership environment. - Plus: experience with Salesforce, HubSpot, Gong, Zapier, n8n, BigQuery, dbt, enrichment platforms, climate markets, carbon markets, sustainability data, energy, finance, or research.
