Anduril Industries is a defense technology company building advanced military systems powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system for real-time command and control. The Imaging team develops state-of-the-art camera and sensor systems deployed across the full stack—from bare-metal hardware and firmware to networked services and cloud integrations.
You will join the Imaging Interfaces team as a Mission Software Engineer. This role combines product development with field operations support. You'll spend time extending production services, diagnosing issues across the full stack, and serving as a technical representative in customer integrations. The work is varied: one morning you might extend a gRPC service; an afternoon you could diagnose a time-sync issue on a deployed device over the phone with a field operator; a week you might travel to support a customer integration. You'll need to be energized by this range and comfortable owning software end-to-end in a fast-moving environment where stakes are real.
Key responsibilities include: owning the health and uptime of deployed imaging systems and triaging issues regardless of root cause (code, firmware, network, or hardware); building and maintaining modular production services that run on edge-compute devices in austere environments; supporting field operators and non-technical users to diagnose and resolve deployed hardware issues; serving as a subject matter expert in integrations with other products and teams; developing broad fluency across hardware, firmware, networking, and software; and collaborating across firmware, hardware, and platform engineering teams. Travel is expected approximately 25% of the time for field testing and customer integrations.
Successful engineers in this role close loops (owning problems until resolved), communicate proactively, are comfortable with ambiguity at system boundaries, and represent the team well externally in customer and partner engagements.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of software development with meaningful production ownership (not just shipping features, but owning system health, uptime, and behavior in users' hands)
- Deep proficiency in at least one of C++, TypeScript (Node.js/React), or Python, with ability to work effectively across stack boundaries in a second language (reading, debugging, modifying code outside primary language). Work spans TypeScript/React operator-facing UI and growing C++ services on edge hardware; C++ depth increasingly central
- Comfort ramping quickly into unfamiliar languages, tools, and deployment systems
- 3+ years working in Linux-based environments, including hands-on work with bare-metal hardware
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve issues across system boundaries (networking, services, hardware interaction) without full visibility into every component
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to explain technical problems clearly to non-technical audiences and field operators
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret clearance
PREFERRED:
- Strength with performance-sensitive, real-time, or resource-constrained systems (edge or embedded)
- Experience with gRPC or similar RPC frameworks
- Familiarity with systemd service management and observability practices on Linux
- Familiarity with Nix or NixOS
- Experience supporting fielded or deployed systems, not just development environments
- Experience with imaging, EO/IR, ISR, or command-and-control (C2) systems
