Hex is a collaborative analytics and data science workspace that enables users to explore data using natural language, with or without code. The company has raised over $100M from top-tier investors including Sequoia and a16z, and serves thousands of customers including Ramp, Figma, Stubhub, and Anthropic. The Infrastructure team owns all cloud infrastructure (compute, networking, datastores), CI/CD, and observability across multi-tenant and single-tenant environments. Every engineer at Hex depends on the infrastructure team's work. With growing customer base and expanding data workflows, the team is hiring to take on high-impact projects that will meaningfully accelerate engineering velocity. In this role, you will own infrastructure projects end-to-end, from conception through delivery and ongoing improvement. You'll work on one or more of these areas based on your strengths and team priorities: - CI/CD optimization: improving pipeline speed, cost efficiency, and flexibility - Stack lifecycle management: automating setup, teardown, and updates for single-tenant deployments - Postgres at scale: performance tuning, migrations, and capacity planning for multi-tenant production databases - Infrastructure cost visibility and reduction - Security posture: workload isolation, container security, and compliance for upmarket customers - Platform features: customer-facing infrastructure capabilities including private connectivity and simplified single-tenant operations You'll bring strong opinions to infrastructure tooling decisions, stay current with rapid changes in the space, and improve foundational components that power the platform. The team values clear communication through design docs and runbooks that enable engineers outside infrastructure to understand and operate systems. Tech stack: AWS (EKS, RDS, ElastiCache), PostgreSQL, Redis, LanceDB, DynamoDB, MSK, TypeScript/Node.js, Python, Rust, Go, Terraform, and Datadog. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years building and operating production infrastructure, including on-call experience - Strong Kubernetes operations: ability to reason about scheduling, networking, and failure modes beyond manifest application - Solid AWS fundamentals (EKS, RDS, VPC networking, IAM) - Infrastructure as code experience, ideally Terraform - Comfortable writing and reading application code to modify pipelines, controllers, or services - Ability to take vague, long-standing problems and turn them into shippable solutions independently - Clear writing skills for design docs and runbooks - Depth in at least one of: networking (VPC design, private connectivity, DNS, TLS, sandboxing), databases (Postgres replication, tuning, connection pooling, major version upgrades, migrations under load), or deployment systems (CI/CD platform ownership, build performance, release management) - Track record of making people around you better, with or without formal management title
