As a Software Engineer III, you will build best-in-class SaaS solutions that enable efficiency, transparency, and accountability within government agencies. You'll be a crucial member of the engineering team, leading and delivering new features and improvements in a fast-paced, agile environment using modern technologies such as ReactJS, TypeScript, GraphQL, and NodeJS.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating across the organization to translate business priorities into shipped features that deliver customer success
- Generating clean, efficient, and well-documented software following industry best practices
- Independently designing and developing high-quality, scalable, secure, and maintainable features
- Working with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications
- Troubleshooting, debugging, and resolving complex technical issues
- Driving continuous improvement of development processes, tools, and operational excellence
- Mentoring and guiding junior software engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement
- Staying current with emerging technologies and industry trends, advocating for their adoption where appropriate
- Contributing to OpenGov's engineering culture of innovation, leading-edge technology adoption, and quality
The role emphasizes working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with bold ideas shipping daily and rapid iteration turning directly into measurable customer impact. You'll work across the full stack (frontend and backend) and ship features end-to-end, with exposure to AI-driven UX, agents, and workflow automation.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of professional experience in software development
- BA/BS in computer science or related discipline, or equivalent experience
- Proficiency in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, ReactJS, and NodeJS
- Proficiency in data structures, database concepts, and algorithms
- Proficiency in observability concepts
- Proficiency in GraphQL APIs
- Expertise in authentication and authorization technologies including Auth0, OAuth 2.0, JWT, RBAC, Re-BAC, FGA
- Experience implementing secure authentication/authorization flows with roles, claims, and fine-grained access management
- Demonstrated experience working with customers to improve product experiences
- Experience building with AI-driven UX, agents, and workflow automation (direct ML experience not required)
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-growth, ambiguous environments
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Experience building software using event-driven architecture
