Salary: USD 154,000 - 200,000 / annual

Adyen is a global financial technology platform providing payments, data, and financial products for enterprise customers including Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft. The company is seeking a Software Engineer II (Kotlin) to develop and maintain in-person payment solutions across a large fleet of payment terminals and SDKs. In this role, you will work on Kotlin-based solutions for payment terminals and SDKs, including features such as accepting payments via credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, QR codes, and integrating with various point-of-sale systems. Your code will be deployed across Android and Linux-based payment terminals as well as backend systems using Kotlin Multiplatform. You will also contribute to C++ libraries central to payment business logic. Key responsibilities include: - Developing and maintaining payment features for global merchants - Building and testing payment solutions using unit testing, integration testing, and automated testing via programmable robots - Collaborating with engineers, product designers, and business stakeholders - Debugging and solving cross-functional issues within Android applications - Mentoring other engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and technical guidance - Investigating new technical possibilities while working within existing frameworks The role is based in the Chicago office. Adyen is an office-first company that values in-person collaboration and does not offer remote-only positions. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years of professional experience writing code in Kotlin - Proficiency in building software for the Android platform - Experience developing enterprise-level SDKs - Expert-level knowledge of Kotlin, Android SDK, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, Gradle, and Dependency Injection - Experience writing and maintaining comprehensive automated unit and integration tests - High level of personal accountability with strong technical skills, creative problem-solving, and collaborative spirit - Demonstrated ability and desire to mentor and grow other engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and technical guidance - Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English NICE-TO-HAVE: - Experience in non-JVM languages such as C or C++ - Experience building libraries used by other engineers - Knowledge of security best practices and standards - Experience working with Bluetooth-connected devices - Background in the payments industry
