Salary: USD 110,000 - 120,000 / annual
Flywire is seeking a Software Engineer II to contribute to its billing and payments product, which processes hundreds of millions in money movement for colleges and universities globally. This is a full-stack role combining technical depth with the ability to navigate diverse client requirements.
You will work closely with US-based software engineering and product teams while collaborating across global offices. The role emphasizes pragmatic design, quality, security, and scalability—never sacrificing these for speed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain high-quality, testable, and maintainable code within the billing and payments system
- Leverage AI tools as a force multiplier for code exploration, test scaffolding, and producing production-quality code
- Ensure security, quality, scaling, and performance standards are maintained
- Communicate effectively across engineering and product teams
- Participate in solutioning meetings, debating trade-offs constructively
You are a self-reliant engineer who takes ownership of tasks while knowing when to escalate well-formed questions to leadership. You adapt quickly to new systems and legacy codebases, manage your time effectively, and thrive in global collaboration across time zones with strong communication skills.
Requirements:
- 3–6 years of professional experience in application development
- Professional Java development experience (required)
- Proven track record as a Java Developer in production environments
- Understanding of relational databases (MySQL)
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and JSP
- Comfort with AI-assisted development tools
- Ability to write comprehensive test cases using JUnit 5, Mockito, and AssertJ
- Experience with Spring Core, Spring MVC, Spring Batch, and Hibernate (nice to have)
- Background in FinTech or Higher Education sectors (appreciated)
- Familiarity with student billing/tuition workflows (plus)
- Ability to deliver high-quality code in a fast-paced, evolving environment
