The LLM Observability team builds AI-specific observability capabilities within Honeycomb's platform. The team owns both the data foundation and product experiences that help customers understand what their AI agents are doing, track costs and token usage, identify errors, and debug individual conversations. You'll work in a small, cross-functional group alongside a dedicated product manager and designer, shipping features that customers use in production.
In this role, you will:
- Deliver AI observability capabilities end-to-end, from data ingestion through in-product visualizations
- Contribute to the data model and infrastructure for observing agents and their ecosystems across Honeycomb
- Build systems that analyze and surface AI-specific signals such as cost, token usage, errors, and anomalies
- Collaborate with product and design partners to ensure solutions are usable, intuitive, and enable meaningful user workflows
- Share learnings about exploring and understanding AI system behavior across conversations and workloads
- Iterate through fast feedback loops and experimentation
- Join the on-call rotation after approximately 90 days
Honeycomb is fully distributed and emphasizes trust, autonomy, and accountability from day one. The company offers generous equity, unlimited PTO, home office and internet stipends, full benefits coverage, up to 16 weeks of paid parental leave, and an annual development allowance.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of software engineering experience
- Experience shipping customer-facing features at a SaaS company (beyond internal tooling)
- Full-stack proficiency: backend development in Go and/or Python; frontend development in TypeScript and React
- Track record of working effectively with product managers and designers
- Regular, hands-on use of AI tools in day-to-day engineering work
- Experience being on call
- Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity in fast-moving environments where requirements shift and experimentation is core to the job
- Bonus: Production experience building LLM or agent-powered features
- Bonus: Hands-on experience with observability tooling such as OpenTelemetry
Note: Honeycomb cannot currently sponsor or support visa transfers.
