Dots is OpenAI's team building personal AI agents that help people accomplish their goals outside of ChatGPT. These agents learn user preferences, maintain context across applications, and use cloud computing to execute tasks autonomously. You will build product experiences spanning web interfaces, APIs, backend services, and data models. The role combines hands-on product development with systems engineering to make persistent, asynchronous agent experiences reliable and coherent across sessions and devices. Key responsibilities: - Build and launch features across the full stack: web interfaces, APIs, backend services, and data models - Create workflows for task creation, progress tracking, agent feedback, and result delivery that remain consistent across sessions and devices - Translate emerging model capabilities into product prototypes in collaboration with research, product, and design teams - Design clear interfaces between product surfaces and agent execution systems - Improve performance and reliability across the stack, including user-facing latency and recovery from partial failures - Own projects end-to-end: from early exploration through architecture, implementation, launch, and iteration based on user feedback - Help establish technical direction, testing practices, and observability as the product scales You should have significant experience building and shipping products across frontend and backend systems. You move comfortably between user interfaces, service design, APIs, and data modeling. You bring strong product instincts and care about making complex capabilities understandable to users. You have taken ambiguous ideas from concept to production and made practical tradeoffs between iteration speed and long-term maintainability. You understand asynchronous workflows and can reason about state, consistency, and failure across system boundaries. You collaborate effectively with design, product, research, and engineering partners. You have owned complex engineering projects and helped other engineers make sound technical decisions. Experience launching new consumer products, building agent or workflow applications, or working in small teams with broad engineering ownership is especially relevant. Prior experience with AI or machine learning is helpful but not required. Requirements: - Significant experience building and shipping products across frontend and backend systems - Ability to work across user interfaces, service design, APIs, and data modeling - Strong product instincts and focus on making complex capabilities understandable to users - Demonstrated ability to take ambiguous ideas from concept to production with sound tradeoffs between iteration speed and maintainability - Understanding of asynchronous workflows and ability to reason about state, consistency, and failure across system boundaries - Effective collaboration with design, product, research, and engineering partners - Experience owning complex engineering projects and guiding other engineers on technical decisions - Preferred: experience launching consumer products, building agent/workflow applications, or working in small teams with broad engineering ownership - AI/ML experience helpful but not required
