Benchling is an AI platform for biotech R&D used by over 200,000 scientists globally, including major biopharma companies like Sanofi and Moderna. The company is rebuilding biotech for the AI era by combining clean, structured scientific data with AI capabilities to compress decades of R&D work into years.
As a Software Engineer on the Extensibility Platform team, you will design, build, and operate platform systems that enable Benchling's vision for an extensible, flexible, and customizable experience. Your work will enable Benchling to scale its product offerings and accelerate scientific discovery for customers while helping shape technical strategy and establish best practices across product and platform teams.
The Extensibility Platform team owns several critical products: Apps and Extensions that allow customers, partners, and third-party developers to build custom offerings installed into tenants with highly customizable in-product experiences; event, webhook, and notification platforms that fan out permission-filtered, real-time domain changes across thousands of tenants; the Benchling MCP, which gives customers' AI agents a governed way to interact with Benchling data; and Canvas Core, which allows users to render powerful, interactive custom UI natively inside Benchling with AI Assistant help. Together, these products form Benchling's vibe-coding platform where scientists can build bespoke experiences without needing to be seasoned software developers.
You will own these products end-to-end, including domain modeling, infrastructure for versioning and distributing products across tenants, and the installation, configuration, and lifecycle machinery behind them. You will lead high-impact projects from design through deployment and operation, work closely with product managers, designers, and engineers across Platform and Applications teams to translate business needs into solutions, collaborate with technical leaders to contribute to team growth and improve engineering processes, and enhance the maintainability, consistency, scalability, and developer experience of Extensibility Platform's public APIs.
Benchling emphasizes AI fluency as foundational to how the company works and is committed to helping new hires integrate AI into their day-to-day work. The interview process includes a brief AI-focused exercise or discussion to understand how you think about and use AI to drive impact.
