Arista Networks is seeking a Software Engineer to join the EOS Platform Independent (PI) Layer 2 and Network Services team. This global team is responsible for building innovative and scalable solutions in Layer 2 protocols (802.1X, LACP, MACsec, Multi-chassis LAG, STP) and network management and security services (AAA/TACACS/RADIUS, DHCP, DNS, IP Locking, Logging, SNMP, SSH/OpenSSL, ZTP). The team also develops network monitoring software using SFlow and IPFIX protocols, and device configuration tools via CLI, RPC/REST APIs, and SDKs. Solutions are deployed across the largest Campus, Cloud provider, Enterprise, and Service Provider networks.
In this role, you will work independently or as part of a team to design, develop, and maintain Layer 2, network management, monitoring, and security features using C, C++, and Python. You will understand requirements from customers, product managers, and field engineers, then write functional specifications. You will own all aspects of development and delivery of software features, build automated tests and infrastructure, work with support engineers and customers to troubleshoot network problems, and collaborate with System Test Engineers to analyze and fix issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering plus 3 years of experience; OR MS plus 1 year of experience; OR Ph.D.; OR equivalent work experience
- Proficiency in C or C++ and Python
- Software development experience with Linux
- Understanding and ability to apply software engineering principles
- Strong problem-solving and software troubleshooting skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a small team environment
- PREFERRED: Hands-on experience developing networking or distributed systems software
- PREFERRED: Knowledge of Layer 2 protocols (802.1X, MACsec, LACP, STP, etc.)
- PREFERRED: Knowledge of network management and monitoring protocols (AAA, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, SFlow, IPFIX, OpenConfig, etc.)
