Salary: USD 182,170 - 227,370 / annual
Roblox is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Engine Infrastructure team, working on the core systems that power the Roblox game engine serving 2M+ developers and tens of millions of daily users. This role focuses on building high-performance, scalable C++ systems that handle critical engine subsystems including data syncing between server and client, game-aware data streaming, resource harmonization across devices with varying capabilities, and distributed game server fleet scaling across millions of servers worldwide.
You will develop engine code in C++ for subsystems critical to the Roblox platform, working on problems that touch threading, memory management, physics, scripting, and real-time performance optimization. The role involves designing systems that enable Roblox to scale globally while maintaining reliability and performance across diverse hardware configurations.

Roblox is headquartered in San Mateo, CA. Office-based roles require onsite presence Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of industry experience designing and leading implementation of highly scalable and reliable distributed backend systems
- Proficient in C++ and one or more additional programming languages (C#, Go, Python, or similar)
- Deep understanding of C++ (preferred)
- Familiar with developing applications that run on Linux
- Familiarity with game engines (preferred)
- Demonstrated curiosity and passion for crafting high-performance technologies and adopting emerging technologies like AI and agents
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and teamwork skills
- Long-term mindset and ability to drive systemic improvements
