Elwood Technologies is a FCA-regulated fintech company building digital asset execution management and risk management software for institutional clients. We are seeking a Software Engineer to join our Engineering Team and work on our next-generation Execution Management System (EMS) platform. You will be responsible for designing, building, and optimizing a multi-region, multi-tenanted EMS platform that serves global trading customers. The role focuses on building concurrent, performance-sensitive systems where correctness and high availability are critical. Key Responsibilities: - Design and implement low-latency, high-throughput systems for the multi-region, multi-tenanted EMS platform, ensuring compliance with industry standards - Analyze and optimize critical paths in the system to reduce latency and improve performance - Maintain distributed, fault-tolerant systems with high availability across multiple regions, ensuring data consistency and low-latency communication - Implement real-time monitoring, telemetry, and alerting systems for proactive issue detection and resolution - Work closely with product, QA, and infrastructure teams to align technical solutions with business requirements and ensure seamless deployments - Review teammates' code with rigor and help raise the team's collective standard - Use AI coding assistants heavily and critically, catching and correcting their mistakes as part of the development process This is a full-time, hybrid role based in London, reporting to the Rust Engineering Lead. Requirements: - 3+ years of professional backend engineering experience, including work on concurrent, performance-sensitive systems - Hands-on production Rust expertise; you should be able to walk through a non-trivial Rust system you built and defend its design (C++ or Go experience is a plus) - Experience with distributed systems and event-driven architectures (e.g., Nats, Aeron) - Knowledge of multi-tenancy patterns and best practices - Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and tools for multi-region deployments - Working knowledge of databases and caches (PostgreSQL, SQLite, Redis, Zookeeper) - Experience with observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack) - Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities - Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a track record of working in cross-functional teams - Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment Desirable: - Understanding of crypto markets and products - Experience leveraging LLMs to accelerate delivery - Financial services experience and background in trading/EMS platforms
