Salary: USD 127,500 - 210,000 / annual

Skydio is the leading US autonomous drone company, serving defense, public safety, enterprise, and utility sectors. The embedded software team is responsible for large portions of the software engineering stack, working on bare metal and RTOS microcontroller code (STM32), embedded Linux and Android platforms (Qualcomm and Nvidia SOCs), kernel maintenance, and electronics bring-up. In this role, you will architect, build, and lead the development of embedded firmware that serves as the foundation for Skydio's autonomous drones and growing accessory product line. You will bridge the gap between algorithms and hardware, working closely with hardware teams and the broader software organization. Key responsibilities: - Provide technical direction and architecture for complex embedded systems - Design and implement embedded software running on vehicles - Characterize, integrate, and validate key subsystems (cameras, radio, etc.) - Bring up and debug new hardware - Write interfaces and drivers for sensors and devices - Perform hands-on hardware debugging and code optimization This is a fast-paced environment where your work directly impacts the core functionality of autonomous flight systems used by first responders, soldiers, utility inspectors, and enterprise customers. Requirements: - Ability to write modern C++ in real-time embedded environments - Python development experience - Ability to write clean code with appropriate abstraction boundaries - SOC development experience (Qualcomm devices a plus) - Embedded microcontroller experience - Practical firmware/embedded code experience for physical devices - Embedded Linux userspace and kernel development - Fundamental knowledge of low-level firmware - Hands-on hardware bring-up, system debugging, and code optimization - Knowledge of debugging systems at ARM assembly code level - Embedded security and cryptographic firmware development experience - FAA Part 107 certification strongly encouraged within first 60 days; required for certain positions
