Cloudflare is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Egress team, which owns a critical aspect of Cloudflare's network-as-a-service: egress connectivity for its portfolio of products. The Egress platform is cutting-edge network software infrastructure used by a growing number of Cloudflare products to connect to any destination from Cloudflare's network, powering products like WARP (Zero Trust platform) and Cloudflare's egress proxy for iCloud Private Relay.
As a key technical contributor, you will design and build network software infrastructure, translate requirements from various Engineering teams into new platform capabilities, and partner with Network Engineering and SRE to optimize use of Cloudflare's edge network. You will participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle: system design and documentation, code and automated test writing, production deployment planning and management, and monitoring. You will work with technologies including Rust, Go, Linux networking, ClickHouse, PostgreSQL, Grafana, and Kubernetes.
Cloudflare operates a Run What You Build model, meaning you will be responsible for the health of your systems and participate in the team's on-call rotation. You will investigate customer issues escalated to the Egress team, respond to questions from other teams, and use AI-powered tools as part of your daily workflow to analyze codebases, introspect production systems, and accelerate problem-solving.
The role requires someone who is growth-oriented, comfortable working outside their comfort zone, and values curiosity and empathy. You will work in a fast-paced but sensible environment, making daily progress on engineering tasks, participating in team meetings, and collaborating across the organization.

- Knowledge of HTTP, TLS, and CDN networks
- Experience implementing secure and highly-available distributed systems
- Strong ability to debug issues in complex systems
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Experience or interest in HTTP networking and VPN technologies
- Experience or interest in network performance monitoring and tuning
- Willingness to adopt and integrate AI tools into your engineering workflow
BONUS:
- Knowledge of TCP/IP and Internet routing
- Professional systems-level programming experience in Rust
- Experience building tools and APIs
- Experience with monitoring, alerting, and debugging large-scale distributed systems
- Experience participating in an on-call rotation
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools in a professional setting
