As a Software Engineer in Developer Infrastructure, you will own the platform engineering mission: making every engineer and AI agent dramatically more productive by building shared infrastructure that eliminates bespoke setup and tribal knowledge. This role focuses on the developer-infrastructure half of that mission—environments, CI/CD and deployment, infrastructure-as-code, environment parity, observability, security, and internal tooling.
You will work on high-impact projects including:
- Deployment processes: building serialized, gated deploys across services with automated schema migrations and rollback capabilities; creating staging-to-production promotion workflows that engineers trust.
- Environments and parity: designing reliable local and remote dev environments that stand up quickly; building sandboxes and preview/review environments for code review verification.
- Agent-first development: implementing MCP gateways, governance, cost management, and foundation model selection for AI-assisted workflows.
- Infrastructure-as-code: managing Spacelift/OpenTofu, drift remediation, cloud consolidation from DigitalOcean to AWS, and establishing IaC standards.
- Repository standards and ownership: defining repository standards (linting, testing hierarchy, ownership manifests), building an ownership registry, and creating an internal developer portal.
- Observability foundations: implementing local tracing, logging, and metrics; managing Datadog cost and hygiene; improving incident-management maturity.
- Security and access: unified secrets/config management, SSO for internal sites, IAM scoping, ECR scanning, audit logging, and vulnerability management.
- Internal tools hosting: building Numeric Labs, a platform enabling anyone at Numeric to ship internal tools without re-solving auth, hosting, and observability.
You will be a great fit if you are technically deep in infrastructure (AWS, containers/ECS, networking, IaC) and pragmatic about trade-offs. You should have a product builder's instinct for developer experience—favoring sane defaults, tooling that teaches, and shipping that means seeing it work successfully. You discover problems by meeting your users: pairing with engineers, watching onboarding, and reading friction signals. You're comfortable building in-house when it's the right call and explicit about when third-party tools earn their place.

Tech stack: AWS (ECS, RDS, S3), OpenTofu/Terraform via Spacelift, GitHub Actions, Datadog, TypeScript/Node, Postgres, ClickHouse, Inngest.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of software engineering experience, including significant time on infrastructure, platform, or developer-productivity work.
- Confidence with AWS, IaC (Terraform/OpenTofu or similar), CI/CD systems, and Linux/container fundamentals.
- Strong general-purpose programming skills (primarily TypeScript, Python where it fits).
NICE TO HAVE:
- Prior experience with Spacelift/Atlantis, Datadog/Firetiger/Chronosphere, or GitHub Actions/Buildkite.
- Running incident-management, defining SLAs, and keeping sites up through enormous traffic.
- Supporting non-engineer contributors (e.g., support engineers shipping fixes with AI tools).
