General Matter is a venture-backed nuclear fuel enrichment company backed by Founders Fund and over a dozen top-tier VCs. The company is building the world's lowest-cost uranium enrichment services in the US to power advanced reactors, AI, and critical industries.
You will design and implement visualization and operator-facing interfaces for test stands and production systems. This role sits at the intersection of real-time frontend engineering and industrial data systems, responsible for building high-performance, reliable UIs that render high-throughput, high-channel-count sensor telemetry live and support situational awareness, alarm management, and post-run analysis. You will play a central role in defining the architecture, rendering standards, and UX of mission-critical visualization systems across R&D, manufacturing/test, and plant operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, implement, and maintain high-performance live charting and dashboards for kHz-class, high-channel-count sensor telemetry across test and production environments
- Develop and integrate HMI/SCADA interfaces for monitoring, control, alarming, and operational visibility
- Build real-time streaming UIs that stay responsive under load, and post-processing tools for cross-run comparison, derived signals, and campaign analysis
- Define and champion modern software engineering practices, UI architecture, rendering standards, testing strategies, and operational best practices across the visualization stack
- Work closely with data platform, controls, and test automation teams to consume streaming and time-series interfaces directly
- Lead debugging, root cause analysis, and performance improvements across the full rendering-to-data stack
This is a senior individual contributor role with significant technical leadership scope—you will set standards, mentor teams, and own the visualization architecture across mission-critical systems in a safety-critical, 24/7 operational environment.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of experience building real-time or data-intensive user interfaces
- Strong, production-level experience in TypeScript/React (or equivalent) and Python
- Hands-on experience with high-performance rendering and live data visualization, with strong understanding of streaming data and UI performance under load
- Experience with high-reliability, on-premise, 24/7 deployments in safety-critical environments
PREFERRED:
- Experience with HMI/SCADA platforms (e.g., Ignition) and dashboarding tools (e.g., Grafana)
- Experience with WebGL, canvas, or custom rendering for high-throughput, many-channel data
- Experience with pub/sub and time-series interfaces (e.g., OPC-UA, MQTT)
- Background in high-performance HMI design for situational awareness and alarm management
- Ability to work across the stack, including data and streaming layers that feed visualization
- Background in high-reliability or real-time environments (industrial automation, aerospace, energy, medical devices, finance/trading, gaming, real-time graphics)
- Demonstrated technical leadership in setting engineering standards and building/mentoring high-performance engineering teams
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary
