Numeric is a modern platform for accounting and finance, building the data infrastructure layer that powers live, trustworthy financial insights. The Data Infrastructure team is responsible for the financial data plane—a ClickHouse-backed lakehouse that ingests raw data from ERPs, banks, payment processors, and customer warehouses, transforms it into typed canonical tables, and serves accounting modules, reporting engines, and AI agents. This is a deliberate architectural bet receiving significant investment this year, and every engineer owns a slice of the architecture end to end.
You would work on challenges including:
- Incremental, watermark-based extraction from API sources (NetSuite, Stripe, Brex, Ramp, HubSpot) and file-based S3 inboxes, plus Postgres-to-ClickHouse replication
- Data contracts and typed source data to enforce schemas at boundaries and make datasets discoverable
- Lakehouse schema management with a declare-codegen-apply pipeline for consistent application across tenants
- Data security: query scoping, ACLs, and customer trust protection
- Batch processing and event-driven accounting with clear operational visibility
- Data correctness and observability through completeness checks, ingestion health monitoring, and traceability from ledger entries to raw events
- Reporting scalability to support drilling from board-level P&L to individual transactions
You'll be close to data consumers—accounting module engineers, reporting teams, and AI agents—shaping the interfaces they use. The role emphasizes understanding how accountants think about source data, completeness, and financial close.
The team operates with high pace and high integrity, grounded in principles of owning outcomes, executing daily, caring deeply about craft, earning trust through quality, and refusing to accept "same as last year" thinking. Engineers are expected to be builders with large mandates and high trust, responsible not just for code but for ensuring the product solves end-user problems.
Tech stack: TypeScript/Node, Postgres, ClickHouse (ClickPipes), SQLMesh, S3/Athena, Inngest, AWS.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of software engineering experience with meaningful time on data-intensive systems
- Strong SQL and working understanding of columnar stores, partitioning, and query performance
- Experience with modern transformation/orchestration stack (SQLMesh, dbt, Dagster, Airflow, or similar)
- Strong general-purpose programming (primarily TypeScript, with Python mixed in)
NICE TO HAVE:
- ClickHouse, Iceberg, or Athena experience
- Multi-tenant data isolation, PII handling, or SOC 2/audit-driven controls
- Prior exposure to financial or accounting data (ERPs, GL, subledgers)
- Experience with orchestration systems like Temporal or Inngest
