Numeric is a modern platform for accounting and finance, built to solve the data and automation challenges that accountants face. The Data Infrastructure team builds the financial data plane that powers Numeric's product. This team owns the lakehouse architecture that ingests raw data from ERPs, banks, payment processors, and customer warehouses, transforms it into typed canonical tables, and serves it to accounting modules, reporting engines, and AI agents. The team is mid-way through a deliberate architectural bet using ClickHouse-backed lakehouse, SQLMesh, and per-tenant isolation. Every engineer on the team owns a slice of the architecture end to end.
Key areas of focus include:
- Ingestion at scale: incremental, watermark-based extraction from API sources (NetSuite, Stripe, Brex, Ramp, HubSpot), file-based S3 inboxes, and Postgres to ClickHouse replication
- Data contracts and typed source data: enforcing schemas at boundaries and making datasets discoverable
- Lakehouse schema management: declare → codegen → apply pipelines for consistent schema application across tenants
- Data security: scoping queries, building ACLs, and protecting customer trust
- Batch processing and event-driven accounting: decoupling event processing from downstream failures
- Data correctness and observability: completeness checks, ingestion health monitoring, two-phase re-ingest, and traceability from ledger entries to raw events
- Reporting scalability: query patterns and materializations enabling drill-down from board-level P&L to individual transactions
You will work closely with accounting module engineers, the reporting team, and AI agents, shaping the interfaces they use. The role emphasizes learning how accountants think about source data, completeness, and financial close, and letting that shape what you build.

REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of software engineering experience with meaningful time on data-intensive systems
- Strong SQL and working understanding of columnar stores, partitioning, and query performance
- Experience with modern transformation/orchestration stack (SQLMesh, dbt, Dagster, Airflow, or similar)
- Strong general-purpose programming (primarily TypeScript, with Python mixed in)
NICE TO HAVE:
- ClickHouse, Iceberg, or Athena experience
- Multi-tenant data isolation, PII handling, or SOC 2/audit-driven controls
- Prior exposure to financial or accounting data (ERPs, GL, subledgers)
- Experience with orchestration systems like Temporal or Inngest
