Maxima is an agentic AI platform for enterprise accounting, automating journal entries, transaction matching, reconciliations, and flux analysis to SOX standards. The company was founded by leaders who oversaw finance at Rubrik and built month-end close systems at Twitter and Netflix. Maxima has raised $41M from top-tier VCs and is in production at Scale AI, Rippling, Glean, and SpotOn.
As a Software Engineer on the Data Infrastructure team, you will design and scale the foundational systems that power all accounting workflows and agents at Maxima. Financial data arrives from ERPs, banks, payroll, and billing systems in high volumes and must be ingested, matched, and reconciled with perfect accuracy—the output directly affects a customer's books.
You will architect data lakes and ingestion pipelines from ERPs, banks, and other financial systems; build and scale multi-tenant relational databases and data models for journal entries, reconciliations, and transaction matching; evaluate and implement search engines and vector databases to support agent and accounting workflows; design durable, highly available financial data processing layers; and own the reliability, observability, and performance of the data platform as customer volume grows. You will collaborate closely with AI Agents and product engineering teams to ensure the platform serves their needs.
This is a foundational role on a small team with significant ownership. The decisions you make about how financial data is modeled, stored, and served will shape the product's capabilities for years.
The role is based in San Mateo with an expectation of in-office presence four to five days per week.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years working with data systems at high-growth companies
- Strong experience with relational databases and data modeling
- Experience building and operating data pipelines and distributed, data-intensive systems
- Familiarity with web development and cloud infrastructure such as GCP
- Demonstrated care for correctness; experience with systems where accuracy is critical
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience with mission-critical systems such as fintech or complex workflow engines
- Production experience with search engines or vector databases
- Financial data background: ERP integrations (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Workday), banking data, or accounting systems
- Proficiency in Go, TypeScript, or Python
