Ben is a benefits platform that connects the entire benefits ecosystem for employers, employees, brokers, and providers. As a Software Engineer (Data), you will own the data pipelines, orchestration, and infrastructure that move data across Ben's platform—from product ingestion to customer systems and back out again. This is mission-critical infrastructure serving global enterprise customers with strict security and reliability requirements. Key responsibilities include: - Build and maintain ingestion pipelines bringing data into the warehouse using Fivetran for managed sources and custom pipelines where needed - Own orchestration systems that keep data moving on schedule and recover cleanly from failures - Scale and manage data infrastructure as code using Terraform and AWS services - Build enterprise-grade pipelines and connectors for customers, integrating HR and payroll systems with reliable, secure data flows at scale - Connect the data layer to AI agents and services Ben is building, including through MCP connectors - Work with product and stakeholders to scope problems and design scalable solutions - Build to enterprise security standards (OWASP Top 10, AWS Well-Architected Framework) Tech stack: Python 3, Django, PostgreSQL, React on AWS. Data platform uses Fivetran, AWS DMS, custom pipelines, dbt for transformation, PostgreSQL on RDS, n8n or AWS Lambda for automation, and Terraform for infrastructure as code. Ben is an AI-native organization where agents already drive impactful work. You'll tackle novel questions about data freshness for agent decision-making, entity matching across tools, and access control for agents—problems few engineers have solved in production. You'll own large, complex problem spaces from day one, with a strong cross-functional engineering team, room to grow, and freedom to work your way. Ben supports hundreds of thousands of people across 30+ countries. REQUIREMENTS: - Strong experience with Python and SQL - Several years building and running production data pipelines that others relied on - Comfortable with infrastructure as code (ideally Terraform) and hands-on AWS experience (Lambda, ECS, Glue, S3, RDS) - Good grasp of ETL/ELT and orchestration - Experience building or running data integrations and connectors, especially customer-facing ones, is a strong plus - Solid software engineering fundamentals: clean code, sensible design, reliable tests - Security mindset when building applications and configuring infrastructure; understanding of enterprise customer expectations for data Nice to have (not essential): - Experience with customer-facing data integrations such as HRIS or payroll feeds via SFTP and EDI format - Experience with MCP server development or preparing data for AI agents (ontology modeling, context, knowledge graphs, semantic layers) - Curiosity about emerging AI/agent patterns
