As a Software Engineer on the Crypto team, you will architect, implement, and maintain the systems and services that form the foundation of Alpaca Crypto, empowering millions of users trading billions of dollars in assets. You will have autonomy to design and implement solutions while actively participating in defining goals in cooperation with cross-functional teams. The role demands an experienced engineer obsessed with delivering defect-free solutions, proven experience architecting and building at scale, and willingness to challenge conventions.
Key responsibilities include: designing, building, and maintaining Alpaca's crypto exchange and market-making systems; developing crypto wallet, funding, and tokenization services; implementing backend services and web applications; maintaining software quality and test coverage; participating in code reviews; troubleshooting incidents and reported bugs; and potential on-call support for timely engineering projects.

REQUIREMENTS:
Must-Haves:
- Knowledge of trading systems and proven experience building exchanges, market-making systems, matching engines, or other high-throughput, low-latency, regulated, fault-tolerant financial systems
- Experience building crypto systems
- BSc/MSc or equivalent in Computer Science or related field
- Minimum 4 years of backend software development experience
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (GoLang, C/C++, etc.; platform uses Golang)
- Experience with messaging queues and message brokers
- SQL or relational database skills
- Hands-on knowledge of Bash, Linux, and Docker
- Enthusiasm for Alpaca's mission and products
Nice-to-Haves:
- Kubernetes experience or CKA/CKAD certification
- DevOps mindset
- CI/CD experience
- Understanding of financial markets
- Experience with major cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure)
- Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies
- Microservice architecture experience
- Clean code principles knowledge
