OpenAI's Health AI team is building AI systems that help people understand and navigate their health while maintaining high standards for safety, reliability, privacy, and user trust. The Consumer Health team is integrating health experiences directly into ChatGPT, enabling users to understand health information, prepare for appointments, track changes over time, and have informed conversations grounded in their personal health context.
You will own consumer health products and features end-to-end, from early prototypes through polished experiences used by millions globally. This role sits at the intersection of consumer product engineering, AI, and healthcare, requiring close collaboration with product, design, research, safety, privacy, and other ChatGPT teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and build consumer health experiences across ChatGPT (mobile, web, full-stack)
- Own features end-to-end from exploration and prototyping through implementation, launch, measurement, and iteration
- Build intuitive interfaces for complex personal health information
- Work with product managers, designers, researchers, and safety experts to translate AI capabilities into consumer products
- Enable users to connect medical records, health apps, and connected devices; explore health trends; and receive personalized answers
- Develop reliable systems for sensitive user data with privacy and security embedded in product experience
- Improve product quality, performance, reliability, and usability at ChatGPT scale
- Take ownership of ambiguous problems and drive toward practical, high-quality solutions
You are a product-minded engineer who cares deeply about craft and user experience, moves quickly from idea to product, and is excited about making complex health information understandable and useful. Prior healthcare or AI experience is not required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of experience building and shipping production software
- Deep experience in at least one of: mobile development, frontend development, or full-stack product development
- Exceptional product engineering skills with shipped consumer-facing products
- Strong focus on usability, performance, and craft
- Ability to work closely with design and product partners and contribute to product direction
- Capacity to take ownership of ambiguous problems and move quickly from prototype to production while maintaining high quality standards
- Genuine excitement about using AI to help people understand and manage their health
- Thoughtfulness about responsibilities of building products with sensitive health information
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience building high-quality consumer products at significant scale
- Experience building AI-powered or conversational products
- Experience with personal data, health data, wearables, or health platforms (e.g., Apple Health)
- Experience building products where privacy, safety, and user trust are core requirements
- Previous healthcare or health technology experience
